'Something Clever' by A.F.

I'm a BA of Communication from RMIT University (Grad '09), Melbourne, Australia. Currently living in Bergen.

People would probably say I've got a mainstream taste in both fashion and music, but I do like to mix things up a little. So here you'll get some mainstream goodies, and a good mix of what i like, dislike and simply love. Everything from music and movies to fashion, food and sports.

'Something Clever' is dedicated to those of you who always try to think up something out of the ordinary for your facebook/twitter/blog posts, i know you're out there.

‘No One Ever Carried My Load’

This band has gotten massive support over the past 2 years or so, but before this they put out 3 amazing albums, and for those of you who are aware of these albums, you already know what band I’m referring to.

This song was apparently recorded on a single take for their latest album ‘Only By The Night’, Caleb didn’t even know it was recorded. For me, it’s the strongest song on the album, it goes deep into the problems of a person in trouble, his/her struggles at a time in their life. Growing up in a deeply religious family, the band states in this song ‘Jesus don’t love me, no one ever carried my load’, clearly familiar with the message of the bible, straying from that path, discovering that it’s up to yourself to carry your load, doing something hurtful to others will eventually come back to you and eat at you, getting caught up in alcohol, drugs, crime etc. is ultimately a problem caused by your own decisions, and can be a hard burden to bear when people you love get hurt. This is just my opinion on the lyrics of the song, haven’t gone through any of this myself, but i know people that has, I just hope that people that has made wrong choices have a person in their life to help them along, getting over it and can start again.

Last weeks post was ‘Ampling Alp’ by Yeasayer.

VoiVoi for now.

‘Your lows will have complement of highs’

This is just one of the many great lyrics from the unique sounds of Brooklyn band Yeasayer. This particular song has many great views on life and how you must stick up for yourself and take the good with the bad, or visa versa as they but it.

To my friends and all around me that take the time to listen to my dribble, I’m a follower of the idea behind always thinking positive. I mean, you don’t give yourself the chance of bringing yourself down, others will try with their pessimism and skepticism to the situations and people around them, but in my opinion, there can never come any good out of being negative. In a positive state of mind, you’ll smile more (making others smile 9/10 times), you’ll never get disappointed of yourself, you’ll be more laid back and not worry so much, things will happen the way they are suppose to if you’re positive, example: You’ll more often than not miss the bus by that much (that=see it drive of from the bus stop when you turn the corner) if you think you’ll miss the bus in the first place. In a positive state of mind, you still might loose the bus without your knowledge, there is another bus on the way that you’ll get on, right? It works for me, so maybe you should give it a go, if you think the world is against you. If you feel that way, it’s actually you that’s against the world, so why would everything around you give anything back?

My point is, there will always be lows, but in a positive state of mind, the highs are complemented by your lows, so if you choose to value the highs and disregard the lows, you win, and everyone loves a winner, specially yourself.

Here is one of the tracks from A&J Stone’s new album ‘Down The Way.’ Listen to it and spread the joy:)

‘I’ll miss you when you’re gone’

This incredible duo from Sydney makes beautiful & mellow indie rock. Just out with a new album ‘Down The Way’, they have become increasingly popular, not only around Australia, but also the UK and Europe.

The song in question ‘Silver Coin’, has a simple message of “You don’t know what you’ve lost, before it’s gone.” Unlike most songs on that topic, and there are many of them, the melody and feel of the song causes you (at least it did to me) to feel the sadness of someone being gone.

A girl i know said to listen to this song when i left Australia 10 months ago, even listening to it now brings me back to what i miss, not only her, but the place and the people there. Have a listen and see what person or place comes to your mind, a nice reminder of people and places you miss, but didn’t realize it at the time.

VoiVoi

new MGTM album leaked, not as impressive as their debut I must say.
